Valencia CF will face Athletic Club on Saturday night, 17 October, at 9:00 p.m. at the Camp de Mestalla, in the match corresponding to Matchday 9 of LALIGA EA SPORTS 2026–27.
As part of the collaboration between the Club and Valencian artist Lawerta to pay tribute to the final season at our stadium, a commemorative poster has been created for the match.
On the one hand, Claramunt was undoubtedly one of the most important players in Valencia CF’s history. A Valencian, captain, international player and undisputed starter, he was one of the finest midfielders to play for the Mestalla side and in Spanish and international football. He wore the Valencia shirt for twelve seasons, making almost 450 appearances and scoring 90 goals. During that time, he won the 1967 Copa del Generalísimo and the spectacular 1970–71 La Liga title.
On the international stage, he made his debut for the Spanish senior national team at just 22 years of age. Such was his standing that he became the first Valencia-born player to captain La Roja. He made 23 appearances for Spain, scoring four goals. In addition, 2026 is being celebrated as the ‘Year of Claramunt’ to mark the 80th anniversary of his birth.
On the other hand, Iribar was one of Spain’s great goalkeepers of his era (1962–1980). He spent 18 seasons at Athletic Club, making 614 official appearances and becoming the player with the most appearances for the ‘Lions’. On the international stage, he won the 1964 European Championship with Spain.
